The Conversation Crisis: The Courage to Have the Conversation A New Book by Sheila J. Simpson
Why relationships struggle—and the conversations that can strengthen them. Coming Soon!
About the Book
In a culture that often encourages people to walk away, The Conversation Crisis: The Courage to Have the Conversation offers a different path—one rooted in honesty, clarity, and meaningful dialogue.
Drawing from more than 40 years of FOCCUS® Marriage Ministries’ work with couples—and patterns seen across thousands of relationships—Sheila J. Simpson reveals why communication is not instinctive and how learning to have the right conversations can transform relationships.
This book is a practical, insightful guide for couples who want to move beyond surface-level communication and address the topics that truly shape their future together.
Why “The Conversation Crisis”?
The title reflects something FOCCUS® Marriage Ministries has observed across four decades of working with couples: most relationship struggles don’t stem from a lack of love or commitment, but from a lack of honest, structured conversation. Couples often avoid the topics that matter most—finances, expectations, faith, family—not because those topics don’t matter to them, but because they don’t know how to talk about them without conflict.
The Conversation Crisis: The Courage to Have the Conversation names that gap directly, offering couples and individuals a way to approach difficult conversations with clarity instead of avoidance.
Who This Book Is For
While rooted in FOCCUS®’s marriage ministry work, The Conversation Crisis speaks to anyone who wants to build stronger, more honest relationships—engaged couples preparing for marriage, married couples looking to reconnect, and even facilitators and counselors who want language to help others move past surface-level conversation.
About Sheila
Sheila J. Simpson is the Executive Director of FOCCUS® Marriage Ministries, a global organization dedicated to strengthening marriages through conversation-based tools used by couples worldwide.
In her role, she draws on decades of FOCCUS® experience working with couples and has identified consistent patterns in relationships—particularly how the absence of meaningful conversation impacts long-term connection and commitment.
